Deborah Halpern Sculpture Flies High

The College has welcomed a spectacular new sculpture by highly acclaimed artist Deborah Halpern.

Deborah, our former Artist in Residence is one of Australia’s most celebrated sculptors with pieces at Southbank and Birrarung Marr. Her signature piece Angel stood in the moat of the National Gallery of Victoria for over 15 years.

The College sculpture, a dove, can be seen flying high between our newly enhanced Middle School and College Chapel. Symbolising the Holy Spirit, the dove is an integral part of the College crest along with our motto Uncito Eius Docet which when translated means the Holy Spirit is our teacher.

Deborah’s work through our Artist in Residence program saw staff and students mentored and inspired by her passion for the arts. Her sense of community and service has encouraged those with an interest in art and those without.

The dove represents a lasting legacy of the wonderful work she is doing here at Luther.

We have been truly blessed to have had such an icon working in partnership with the College to inspire the next generation of artists.
