Departing from Luther College, and heading along the beautiful Mullum Mullum Creek Trail, the Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) Walk my Way event is set for Saturday 21 October.
Why is this event important?!
Well, it won’t just help build community, get you fit and ready for summer, help you make friends and have fun with current ones, but more importantly, it helps raise much needed funds to send refugee children in East Africa to school.
The Australian Lutheran World Service or ALWS is the overseas aid and development agency of the Lutheran Church of Australia and Walk my Way is an initiative where every $26 raised sends a refugee child to school for an entire year.
These children have faced unthinkable challenges, fleeing from danger, losing their homes, pets and possessions, and so having an opportunity to go to school is an important part of their healing journey.
How can you get involved?
Walk: You can choose to walk either 13kms or 26kms depending on what you feel is possible.
Volunteer: If walking isn’t your thing or an injury or illness might prevent you from participating, we are looking for volunteers to help with a bunch of different jobs.
Sponsorship: There are sponsorship opportunities, so if you know a business who might like to get involved to support the event let us know. Drop an email to walkmyway@alws.org.au
What will you get?
Along with the satisfaction of knowing you helped a child in need, you will also get a Walk my Way t-shirt, breakfast, a warmup session plus snacks and an all-round fun day out.
Where are we walking?
Walk along the beautiful Mullum Mullum Creek Trail to either Schwerkolt Cottage in Mitcham and back to Luther College (13kms) or to Whitefriars College and back to Luther College (26kms), stopping for lunch midway.
