Records are broken at EISM Swimming

Wednesday 13 March 2013 – With Melbourne posting its ninth day over 30 degrees, it was a perfect night for a swim and the Division 1 schools of the Eastern Independent Schools of Melbourne (EISM) made the most of their swimming carnival.

For the third year in a row, Luther College came second and its swim team set five new EISM swimming records during the Carnival.

Year 7 student, Ben Adams, competed in, and won, four individual under 13 boys events. Three of Ben’s swims, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke, set new EISM records.

The Luther College U15 Girls were age group champions, with the medley relay team of Tamsyn Reyneke, Emma McLauchlan, Kia Beth Laidler and Sarah Urquhart setting a new EISM record. The same girls backed up their stunning first swim with another win and new EISM record for the freestyle relay.

The girls' medley relay teams placed in all age groups and the girls' freestyle teams placed in all but one of the age group swims.

And whilst the Luther Swimming Team wasn’t strong enough to win the Champions trophy, every swimmer performed so well that they have all been invited to compete at the Champion of Champions EISM Carnival on Monday 25 March at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Congratulations to all of our swimmers for their efforts and successes and thanks to Mr Jack Merx and Mrs Tania Smith for organising the Luther College EISM Swimming Team.
