Luther College Croydon - From MasterChef to LutherChef

Greater care
Greater learning

From MasterChef to LutherChef

Every two years the College runs a five-day cooking challenge called LutherChef.

It’s a fun filled week of lunch time cooks offs, amazing race style activities, pressure tests, mystery boxes and more. Over 130 students got into the spirit with creations including delicious chocolate crepes and pasta carbonara. Staff from across the College were judges, reducing teams after every round. Each activity tests the teams abilities to create and collaborate under pressure, manage time and evaluate output - making for a fast paced and exciting learning environment.

On the last day of competition, there were five finalists (five teams of two) with one last hurdle to conquer - ‘Popcorn at the Movies’. A creation dreamed up by guest chef and judge, former MasterChef (2017) contestant Jess Butler. Jess led the teams through some pretty challenging tasks and was proud of the end result.

“Even experienced cooks might find this one challenging,” she said.

It was a fabulous week and well done to Year 12 students Cameron and Ben for taking out the title. The Year 7 team of Tess and Rachel were hot on their heals and will no doubt be strong contenders in 2020. All finalists walked away with a signed copy of Jess’s cookbook Cooking Outside the Lines and the proud knowledge that they have cooked with one of Australia’s best.
