Luther In Concert

Luther In Concert

It has been another busy term in the Performing Arts Music department. Recently, our ensembles have been participating in the Victorian School Music Festival (VSMF) - a great "dress-rehearsal" for Luther in Concert.

The VSMF is all about learning – it isn’t a competition. The festival provides students with the opportunity to work with leading music educators as Chief Adjudicator. It’s the full sensory experience; young people making music, listening to themselves and their peers making music, watching how it can be done differently and analysing their own performance afterwards by listening to the recording provided. It is a wonderful way to expand student learning and performance skills.

The Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Michael Bradshaw, performed two works in the Intermediate Concert Band section and were awarded a Gold Shield for their efforts, with high scores achieved against all criteria. The Concert Band, with Ms Laura Clisby, performed in the  Junior Concert Band Category and were awarded a Silver Shield. Adjudicator Dr Caroline Beatty, the Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at Texas State University, provided valuable feedback to the Concert Band members, making this a wonderful learning experience. This week, Luther Voices, with Mrs Ursula Cettolin performed in Federation Square. What an experience and amazing performance! Luther Voices was successful in also gaining a Silver Shield.

This coming Saturday Mr Leigh Olsson and the Luther College Stage Band will perform at the Essentially Ellington Festival at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM). This is another learning opportunity for the ensemble, as it will be adjudicated from members of the Ellington Jazz Orchestra from New York, USA.

If you want to see all of this amazing music in action, we welcome you all to attend and support our major school concert in Term 3, Luther in Concert. This will be a showcase of all the wonderful hard work and talent we have on offer. A reminder that this event will take place on Tuesday 29 August at 7:30pm in the Chapel.
