Welcome Nanjing No. 12 Middle School

Luther College Principal, Michael Kleidon and Heyun Shi from Nanjing No. 12 Middle School exchange gifts Nanjing No. 12 Middle School students and Luther buddies

Luther College welcomes students from Nanjing No. 12 Middle School, China.

To help our guests fully experience the day-to-day lives of Australians and Luther College, they are staying with the families of our Year 10 students who will travel to China in the September school holidays. Each guest is also buddied with a Luther Year 7 student for day time activities and together they will attend normal classes, play down-ball, do some baking and simply spend time talking and sharing information about life in Australia and China.

Our Chinese visitors will further experience the Australian culture and lifestyle with their Luther host families throughout the week. As a group, they will experience Mt Dandenong and its beauty with a trip on Puffing Billy, and will also attend a reception at Government House. The reception, hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AM, Governor of Victoria, for Sister School visits from Jiangsu Province, China, further celebrates international relationships and partnerships.

As our partnership grows, our schools and students are becoming more familiar and knowledgeable about each other and our respective cultures. These face-to-face opportunities provide the Luther community with incredible learning opportunities and understandings – and will certainly become even more relevant as Luther offers Mandarin as a language for study in 2018.
