Ministry Centre
The Ministry Centre is situated across the roadway from the Chapel, and together with the Chapel, forms the spiritual focus of the College. In a past life it was the home of the resident boarding master and still maintains its homely atmosphere. This has been deliberate since one of the chief purposes of the Centre is to provide a place where students, staff and parents feel welcome and where they can come for pastoral care, support, coffee, prayer, resources or just “to be”, if they feel the need.

Currently the Ministry Centre houses, appropriately enough, the Ministry Team, which consists of the pastor and lay chaplain, a psychologist/counsellor, the Educational Ministry Coordinator, Social Justice Coordinator, Director of Staff Wellbeing, Christian Studies teachers and the receptionist/support staff member.

Some of the services the Ministry Centre provides are:
  • Counselling and psychological support
  • Enquiries about chapel and the chapel program or facilities
  • Training and resources in theological matters and the College ethos
  • Social Service, Voluntary Service and WASP (Wednesday Afternoon Service Program) information and assistance.
Its facilities are used on a regular basis by small groups such as the Parent Prayer Group and student workshops. Students use it as a drop-in centre when they feel the need for comfort, or just some time out of the busy-ness of school life.
Small in size but vital in significance the Ministry Centre guides the spiritual life of Luther College.

Centre for the Exceptional Learner
Background
The Centre for the Exceptional Learner first started operating in the latter half of 2005 and continues to evolve.

Vision
The Centre is run by Luther College and is situated within its grounds. Future building plans will link the Centre to the Middle School and neighbouring Good Shepherd Lutheran Primary School.

The Centre for the Exceptional Learner aims to provide students, parents and teachers at Luther College and the wider community access to experts in the fields of Giftedness, Language and Learning Disabilities. The following professionals and organisations are currently involved with the Centre: Luther College Learning Needs Coordinator, educational psychologists, specialist speech language pathologist, specialist tutors, Starjump (providing programs for visual spatial learners), and Gifted Resources Victoria.

The aim is to provide individual assessments and programs for students as well as identification of giftedness and/or language and learning disabilities. The Centre also provides professional development for teachers and parents in the form of workshops, special activities, seminars and consultations.

Drama Studio
The Drama Studio provides a versatile space for Performing Arts at Luther. Part of the extension to the existing Chapel/Music building, the Drama Studio is primarily used for daily lessons in Drama, Theatre Studies, Dance and Production. Many classes also use the space for performance, where audiences of up to 50 can come and enjoy the fruits of the students’ hard work. Around 10 productions of various sizes and forms take place here each year. The Studio’s sprung wooden flooring is ideal for Dance classes, while the blacked-out walls both help the students focus on the work at hand and provide a neutral backdrop for their imaginations and creativity to take over.

Senior students can make use of the student-friendly lighting rig, bio box and sound equipment to gain practical experience in the more technical side of theatre. In addition, the Drama Faculty has a costume wardrobe and set/props shed where students can browse, build and paint. Dressing and make-up rooms at the back of the Studio complete the picture.

Such an intimate, functional space provides a comfortable atmosphere where students can explore, create and learn collaboratively.
