Physical Education

At Luther College all physical education and sport is scheduled within school hours and is a combination of school-based lessons and activities, and team competitions involving Luther and other members of the Eastern Independent Schools of Melbourne (EISM). Members of the EISM include Southwood Schools, Salesian, Aquinas, St Joseph’s, Lilydale Adventist, Mt Scopus, Billanook, Emmaus and Mt Lilydale Mercy College.

Recent construction works at Luther College have seen the complete redevelopment of its main oval, soccer and hockey pitches, providing first class playing grounds.

The College also has two fully equipped gymnasiums, tennis, basketball and netball courts.

In Semester 2, all Year 7 students will participate in an interhouse sport program conducted in Periods 5 and 6 on Monday afternoons.

Interschool sport is introduced in Year 9.

Years 11 and 12

Physical Education and Outdoor Education Units 1-4 are offered as elective VCE studies. These contain a large theory component as well as practical work.

At present, all Year 11 students participate in a senior interschool sports program, which involves playing competitive sport matches against other schools in the EISM network. This program is optional for Year 12 students.

A recreational sport program and formal voluntary service program is provided concurrently for those students who either cannot be accommodated in one of the teams or do not wish to participate in competitive sport. Students may also choose to be involved in a community service program.

School Sporting Carnivals
Whole-school activities held during the year include athletic, cross country and swimming carnivals (interhouse and interschool), rally days and informal matches against other EISM schools.
